Who is Dee Hock?


Dee Hock is the founder of Visa. He established the company in 1958, and it was one of the first credit card companies to provide services to people around the world.


Dee Hock was born in 1922, in Iowa. He studied at Stanford University and obtained a degree in economics. After graduating, he joined the US Army Air Corps and served as a navigator during World War II. In 1946, he left the armed forces with an honourable discharge and returned to his studies at Stanford University where he graduated with a PhD in Economics.


He then taught at various universities before returning to Stanford as professor of economics from 1957-1958.


In 1958 Dee Hock founded and was the chief executive of Bank Americard Inc., which became Visa Inc., a global payments technology company that provides financial services for consumers and businesses around the world through Visa Net, an electronic funds transfer network that processes about 10 billion transactions per day for over 100 million account holders worldwide.
